Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport among players over 55 for good reason: it is easy on the joints, easy to learn, and the most social hour of the week. Universal Rackets runs weekday daytime pickleball clinics across the Philadelphia suburbs that fill with retirees and players in their 60s, 70s and 80s, plus on-site programs for 55+ communities, HOAs and senior centers. Why Pickleball Works After 55

Small court, underhand serve, slow ball, big fun.

Pickleball's court is a quarter the size of a tennis court, the ball is plastic and slow, the serve is underhand, and the rules keep everyone away from the net until the ball bounces. That is why a first-timer can play a real game in their first hour and why so many players pick it up in retirement. It is good for balance, reaction time and heart health, and because it is played as doubles, it is social from the first point.

Our daytime clinics are open to every adult but fill mostly with players over 55, so the group moves at a comfortable pace and the coach adapts drills for anyone with a knee, hip or shoulder that needs respecting. Clinics are grouped by level, not age; a 70-year-old intermediate plays with other intermediates. The coach is the same every week and knows your game by week two.

Daytime clinics currently run in towns including Limerick, Phoenixville, Radnor, Conshohocken, Tredyffrin, Wynnewood (Kaiserman JCC) and Lakewood Ranch, Florida, and move indoors to township gyms from late November through March. See each town page for the live weekday schedule.

Programs for 55+ Communities, HOAs and Senior Centers

If your community has courts, we can run pickleball on them. Universal Rackets partners with 55+ and active-adult communities, HOAs and senior centers across Pennsylvania, Florida and Texas to run beginner clinic series, intermediate clinics, one-day camps, social leagues and open-play coaching, with our certified coaches, our equipment and our registration system. Lifestyle directors get a turnkey program and residents get coaching on their own courts. See how it works on the partner page or contact us.

Common Questions From Players Over 55

Are there pickleball lessons for seniors near me?

Yes. Weekday daytime clinics across the Philadelphia suburbs fill mostly with players over 55, and we run on-site programs for 55+ communities. Pick your town above for the schedule.

I am 70 and have never played. Is a clinic really for me?

Yes. Most people in a beginner clinic have never played, and many are retirees. You will learn the rules, serve and dink, and play a real game in the first session, at your pace.

Is pickleball hard on the knees?

It is far easier on the joints than tennis: smaller court, slower ball, less running. Our coaches adapt drills for anyone managing a knee, hip or shoulder. Court shoes with lateral support matter more than anything else.

Are there clinics during the day on weekdays?

Yes. Weekday morning and early-afternoon clinics run in several towns and indoors in winter. See each town page.

Do I need a partner or my own paddle?

No. We provide paddles and balls, and clinics rotate partners so you play with everyone.

Do you run pickleball at 55+ communities?

Yes. We bring coaches and equipment to your community's courts for clinic series, camps and leagues. Contact us or see the partner page.

How much does it cost?

Five-week clinic series start around $140 for one-hour sessions and $210 to $230 for 90-minute sessions. No membership, no equipment to buy.
